WELCOME LETTER
Dear Friends of the Millstein Center,
Welcome to the 2008 Yale Governance Forum, taking place at Yale in New Haven, CT on June 9-10, 2008. This year's forum, sponsored by Deloitte, consists of four plenary sessions, eight smaller topic-specific "focused sessions," and a pre-forum workshop. The event, our third annual forum, aims, in part, to examine changes in the global capital markets. Beyond being a cornerstone of the Center's current agenda, issues pertaining to the capital markets are at the top of policy agendas worldwide.
This year's program is more comprehensive than years past, which is just one indication of the Center's significant growth since its inception in June 2006. We now conduct well over 20 major projects annually, including workshops, roundtables, speaker series, research projects, and policy briefings. With the addition of Dr. Stephen Davis to our team, our policy briefings, which include original research and policy analysis, have truly taken flight. Starting this year and moving forward, we will try to launch all briefings at Forum panels on related topics and have them available for audience distribution and via internet.
This year's Forum will once again provide the opportunity to discuss current key topics and allow participants to meet and interact with fellow practitioners and leaders. As we have said before, our goal is not to merely engage in general discussion, but to deeply explore key issues in order to impact both policy and action. This gathering of leading thinkers from the business, investment, and academic communities demonstrates the Center's unique convening power.
Our convening power coupled with our multidisciplinary focus and mission has enabled us to us to embark on many exciting and valuable projects and programs by bringing together practitioners, academics, and policy makers. This could not have been possible without our many partners, sponsors, and friends. Many of you have been there from the beginning. Without going through the extensive list of names, we would like to say "Thank You." You all know who you are. We would also like to say thank you to the wonderful and dedicated staff of the Millstein Center, as well as the many students and interns that make this event possible.
We are elated that so many of our friends and colleagues, a truly distinguished group, are available to come to Yale to participate. We hope you find the proceedings as rewarding as we will.
Sincerely,
