Do Boards Matter?, a research project undertaken by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) with the Center’s assistance, will examine how boards make a difference. The fundamental questions are: How do directors and boards have an impact on the firm? What is the nature of that impact in terms of quality and importance? Does good governance make a difference to the firm, and if so, how? This project will examine board and director practices in a public company context, including companies across a range of industries and with a range of performance levels on financial and governance metrics. The effort aims to uncover relationships that exist among director actions, board and company practices, and corporate performance in both financial and governance arenas. Jonathan Koppell is providing substantive guidance on the design and implementation of research. Also under the auspices of the Millstein Center, Professor Rick Antle will be responsible for developing the curriculum for the NACD’s director education program.
